RED is the Euregio inter-university centre for Regional Entrepreneurial Development (RED) offering the combined expertise of the WWU Münster and the University of Twente. While national borders exist on paper, in practice Westfalen, Twente, and surrounding regions are strongly intertwined by their shared history - and to some extent even language and symbols. Think for example about the rearing horse and the colour red in both the Twente and Westfalen flag. Although various initiatives exist to strengthen the regional entrepreneurial ecosystems in both Twente and Westfalen regions, such as REACH (Münster) and NovelT (Twente), stronger cross-regional collaboration with respect to science-based entrepreneurship can be a catalyst for stronger integration of both regional entrepreneurial ecosystems, of regional innovative businesses with academia, and for the related impact-driven research expertise at both universities.
For this purpose the RED centre has three key objectives:
- Understand the entrepreneurial process in science-based entrepreneurship research
- Improve entrepreneurship education in conjunction with the euregional economy, in particular with respect to challenge-based learning and lifelong learning
- Support industry exploring cooperation between euregional academia and practice, in particular on evidence-informed support of university spin-offs and euregional innovative businesses.
